School timetable recycled

26/ 3/2008

A SCHOOL timetable has been scrapped for two weeks so pupils can learn more about climate change and recycling.

Instead of attending regular lessons, Year 8 students at Levenshulme High School for Girls will cover a wide variety of subjects - for example, learning about geography and science by looking at areas of the world affected by climate change. They have also created their own ‘news bulletins’ in which they describe areas affected by floods. Other topics will include diet and healthy eating.

Assistant headteacher Mandy Pugh said: "We wanted to get the pupils to use their skills in different subjects.

"The aim is to take a project that is interesting but also broad enough to encompass a lot of areas. It has improved their confidence and willingness to work together."
