New school gets seal of approval from Westminster

18/ 4/2008

STAFF and pupils at Radclyffe School, in Chadderton, proudly showed off their new state-of-the-art surroundings to a VIP visitor.

Harriet Harman, the deputy leader of the Labour Party, was given a guided tour of the new Hunt Lane centre, built as part of a multi-million pound Private Finance Initiative to improve educational facilities across the borough.

The school opened in February and replaced the previous Radclyffe schools which were split between two sites. Ms Harman was shown around by pupils, headteacher Hardial Hayer, and chairman of governors, Cllr Jim Greenwood.

After a half-hour tour which saw her take a look at IT facilities, a dance studio and a ceramics class she said: "I think it is stunning. These facilities are fantastic but why shouldn’t they be?

"Our children deserve the very best to allow them to learn and develop to their full potential. Everyone had been commenting on how different it all is since they were at school."

Ms Harman was presented with flowers by pupils.
