Songs of peace and love

A SWEET voiced 10-year-old Muslim from Oldham hopes her latest song will rescue Asian people from the label terrorist.
Khadijah Begum has already cut her first CD of nasheeds - Islamic religious songs - but is now working on a new number simply called Terrorism.
Its lyrics are an appeal to Britain's white population not to label Asians as terrorist or bad people but to see them as human beings.
Talented Khadija's reputation as someone with the voice of an angel grew when she sang before thousands of Muslims at the recent Expoislamia meeting held at the Manchester Evening News Arena.
The performance has boosted sales of her first CD. Half of the profits from sales will go towards a project to build a Muslim centre on derelict land at Dunbar Street, Oldham
Khadija, of Onslow Close, got into nasheeds when friends at her school praised her voice.
She said: "I came home and told my dad and then started singing nasheeds.
"I wasn't nervous at the arena as I have sung at other events. I like performing in front of people."
Apart from Terrorism other songs by Khadijah include Mother - a hymn to motherhood - and Palestine, which tells of the tragedy and struggle of the Palestinian people.
Said proud dad Nanu Miah: "Khadijah was a gifted singer from the time she was very young. She used to sing along with her favourite nasheed artists.
"The CD is selling very well and she has just performed at another event in Bradford."
The £1.5 million Muslim centre project is being organised by the Oldham Branch of the Young Muslim Organisation. When it is built it will be open to all sections of the community.
