Here’s me with my TV mum

A YOUNG actor has taken his first steps to stardom after playing a major role in a popular ITV drama.
Keiran Patel, aged 12, has already appeared in five episodes of Where the Heart Is, screened on Sunday nights at 8pm, and is waiting to see if a new series of the programme is commissioned.
He stars as Gus Clayton, the son of a new family in the quiet Sheffield town of Skelthwaite. His on-screen mother, Nisha Clayton, is played by former Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati.
Keiran, of Stanycliffe Road, Boarshaw, said: "It's really cool, I like being there around all the people on set. I play a real smarty-pants, which I quite like actually."
But he added he finds it is difficult watching himself back on television. "It's really weird, I don't like it," he said. "You get scared watching yourself because you don't want to get things wrong."
Keiran goes to Oulder Hill School, Rochdale after attending Lane-Johnson acting classes in Salford five years ago. Following an appearance as an extra in Coronation Street, his agent landed him an audition for the role of Gus Clayton.
"I've always wanted to be an actor since I started at acting school, and I really wanted to do something big like Where the Heart Is," Keiran said. "I remember when I found out about the role, I was coming back from school one day and I went straight to the shop.
"My mum had already told the lady in there that'd got in and she told me. I went straight home and my mum said it was true. It felt mad!"
He added his dream job would be on a programme such as Coronation Street or Holby City, but he hoped to resume his role as Gus.
The tenth series of Where the Heart Is, which also stars Denise Van Outen, ended on Sunday and has proved a hit with viewers, drawing 6.4 million for the last episode on Sunday.
