The shape of things to come

Talented Qurat Ul-Ain hopes to have a hand in designing the townscapes of the future.

And the Oldham student is of to a flying start after being short listed for the Women in Property award.

She was nominated by Kim Mayall a lecturer at Oldham university centre and was selected to go through to the next stage thanks to her "creative talents."

Qurat, who is studying architectural and interior design, was then invited to Leeds to undertake an interview by a panel of eight industry professionals.

She said: "I was delighted to have got through to the interview stage. I was extremely nervous at first but the more I got into the interview the more I relaxed and the panel was really interested in what I had to say.

"They asked me all about my projects that I have worked on, and also about where I see myself as a professional within the industry and what I want to get out of working within this sector.

"I was thrilled when I came out of the interview as it was great experience and I enjoyed talking with professionals from the sector that I want to work within."

The Women in Property Association has a membership of 1500 nationally from all the professions in property and construction and as part of their 20th birthday, it is celebrating by running an award scheme open to those studying the built environment.

The final announcement of the regional winner will take place at a glitzy award ceremony in Leeds when Qurat will find out whether her talent has carried her through to go head to head with the best from all of the other branches and win a prize of £1000.
