Crash man named

28/12/2007

A man killed in a motorway smash involving Labour peer Lord Ahmed has been named as Martyn Gombar, 28, from Leigh.

He died when the Audi A4 he had been travelling in was in collision with a Jaguar X-type driven by Lord Ahmed, pictured, on the M1 in south Yorkshire.

The Audi had earlier crashed into the central reservation and ended up in the fast lane, facing the wrong way.

Mr Gombar and a passenger in the Audi a 30-year-man, also from Leigh had managed to escape to the hard shoulder.

But Mr Gombar went back to his car possibly to retrieve a mobile phone. The Audi was then in collision with the Jaguar. Two more vehicles became involved in the Christmas Day crash but neither driver was hurt.
