Delight at the museum

CHILDREN at Broadfield Primary School in Rochdale had a very special visit from Manchester Museum staff.

They brought along rainforest creatures, creepy crawlies and various artefacts.

A group of pupils will visit the museum shortly to take part in a Collective Conversation workshop, which will be filmed and could be used on the museum's website.

The museum’s visit marked the start of an important year for the children at Broadfield. They are about to embark on a project with the Ruskin Foundation called How to See.

The main aim of the project is to encourage children to look at the world around them and appreciate what they see.

The culmination of the project will be a joint exhibition at Touchstones with Deeplish and Alice Ingham primary schools from 31 May to 13 July.

Headteacher Kathryn Knight said: "We wanted to encourage the children to really look at the world around them. The children loved the visit, the museum brought lots of nice things for them to look at and touch.

"The visit to the museum will be great for developing the children's speaking and listening skills.

"It will also develop their vocabulary and broadens their understanding and knowledge."
