Parents can broaden IT skills with new computers
16/ 4/2008
TWO children’s centres in Rochdale have been celebrating after receiving a grant to buy four new computers.
The centre at Greenbank and Heybrook were awarded a joint grant of £2,138 by the Community Foundation – Sage Community Fund, to buy the new laptop computers.
They will be used to teach parents and carers about IT so they can become more involved with their children’s work on computers at home.
Greenbank already hosts IT classes for parents and the new computers will allow more people to benefit from the classes.
Mother-of-three Safina Ali said: "I enjoy computers.
"Now we have four brand new laptops so we don’t need to share and we can work at our own pace.
"This class is very important for me and also because I would like to help my children to learn too."
Nasrin Sikander, who has two children aged five and 10, said: "I like learning new skills such as typing and browsing on the internet.
"I can use computers at home now to help my children with their work.
"I can also do my shopping online."
