Muslims and Christians will discuss Mary and Jesus

A local imam and reverend will discuss what both Islam and Christianity says about Mary and Jesus.

Imam Irfan Chesti of Jamia Chestia Mosque and the Reverend James Read from The Vicarage will be holding the discussion at have at an interfaith meeting at Rochdale Town Hall tonight.

Both guests will answer questions on Jesus and Mary, which will be followed by an open ‘question and answer’ session from the audience.

Said Rev James: "The event will be an opportunity for us all to share, learn and gain new insights from engagement with one another."

Imam Irfan said: "This is an excellent opportunity for the wider community to come together and listen, as well as ask questions about Jesus and Mary. The meeting will improve understanding from both Islamic and Christian perspectives, and encourage the audience to ask questions.

The discussion will be chaired by Malcolm Journeaux.

The event is free and Muslims, Christians, members of other faiths, and those of no faith, are welcome to attend. Doors open at 7.00 p.m. and the programme will begin promptly at 7.15pm.

Added Rev James: "We will have a break to allow our Muslim attendees to perform their sunset prayers. Anyone wishing to observe how Muslims perform their prayers will be given the opportunity to do so. Light refreshment will also be available at that time, followed by a question time at 8.45pm. The event will conclude with the Compline - Christian night prayers. Again, this will allow attendees to observe how Christians carry out their prayers.
