Mystery patient at Royal?

MYSTERY still surrounds rumours a Kuwaiti sheikh is a top secret patient at Salford Royal Hospital.

The Advertiser received a number of calls from hospital staff claiming the Emir of Kuwait was to stay at the hospital for treatment.

However, Kuwaiti officials have informed the Advertiser that King of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah is in his homeland this week, overseeing proceedings at the Fourth Annual Islamic Economic forum.

The rumours emanating from the hospital have revolved around refurbishments taking place on ward B4.

Staff informed the Advertiser that a refurbishment and deep clean were taking place on the ward to accommodate his highness.

A source, who did not wish to be named, said: "They have closed off Ward B4 and are rennovating it and cleaning it up and everyone’s saying it’s for the King of Kuwait to come and stay.

"I think it’s going to cost about £150,000 and usually the ward sleeps seven people, but instead they are closing it just for him."

Salford Royal Hospital were unable to confirm or deny the rumours due to patient confidentiality, instead releasing this statement: "The Trust is unable to comment on current or prospective patients because this would breach their confidentiality.

"Ward B4 is not closed and it remains fully operational.

"There is an area at the back of the ward which is not in use.

"This is currently being refurbished to provide additional bed areas."
