Man died of heroin overdose

5/ 5/2008

MOHAMMED Shakeel died in his bedroom from a fatal dose of heroin just hours after complaining of toothache

An inquest in Manchester heard that a fatty liver caused by alcohol may have contributed to the 23-year-old’s death.

Coroner Nigel Meadows said Mohammed, of Delemere Road, Levenshulme, was found curled up on the floor by his mother on November 30 last year.

Near the body was a brown substance believed to be heroin and there were traces of cocaine in his system.

The family were unable to shed any light on his drug taking and the coroner said: "We don’t know if it was a one off or whether he had been using drugs regularly.

"He might have been trying to find relief from the pain of toothache."

Recording a verdict of death from non-independent use of drugs Mr Meadows concluded: "It’s the impetuosity of youth thinking you can do anything and survive."

Another loss of a young life; which I'm sure will leave the close family & friends of shakeel devasted. My heartfelt condolences go out to them. I think it is about time that people in the south asian communities understand the need to know more about drugs & alcohol and talk to their children about it. There is help & support available out there and by shying away from it will unfortunetly mean the loss of more lives.
