Jail for man who assaulted schoolgirl

12/ 5/2008

A FAMILY man who terrified a 17-year-old girl has been jailed.

Fadil Mulhamed, 42, of Craston Road, Longsight, Manchester, received a six-month sentence at Manchester Magistrates Court.

District Judge Tim Devas told him: "The sentence I pass hardly reflects the seriousness of what you did.

"To assault a perfectly innocent girl was pretty awful and then you follow her again. You deserve no mercy."

Mulhamed was convicted after trial of assault and harrassment in May and June last year.

Prosecutor Tess Kenyon said Mulhamed had tried to chat up the girl as she was walking through Longsight.

When she ignored him he jumped out of his car and grabbed hold of her but she managed to escape.

Weeks later, Mulhamed again followed her as she went to pick up her brother from school.

She told a teacher and the defendent was arrested parked outside in his car, said Miss Kenyon.

Mulhamed said he couldn't recall the first incident and had stopped near the school to make an urgent phone call.
