Police officers gain better understanding of Islam

15/ 5/2008

POLICE are learning about Islam and the local Muslim community as part of a pilot scheme.

Officers from Longsight and south Manchester were today being briefed by community race relations officer Afzal Iqbal, an imam and members of a local mosque.

Among the topics being discussed were Muslim culture and beliefs, the history of Islam and women in Islam, as well as more difficult issues such as holy war, terrorism and Islamophobia.

Mr Iqbal, who devised the course, said: "Officers need to know about Islam, particularly because of the current climate of Islamophobia and terrorism."

Chief Superintendent David Keller of the Manchester Metropolitan Division said: "This course is an important step forward.

"There are multiple benefits for everyone involved. Police officers will gain a better understanding of Islam and the concerns of local Muslims, as well as an insight into the culture and traditions of the Muslim community ".

The lessons are taking place at the Eastern Pearl Restaurant in Plymouth Grove, Longsight, and include a tour of Victoria Park Mosque.

Shamas what are you on about? Your comments do not make sense. i understand and agree that we should educate ourselves on the different religions of the world, not just Chrsitianity, Judaism and Islam but every other religion. And how are the three religions similar? Chrsitianity states that Jesus is the Son of God, Islam disagrees with that. "Say, 'He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begets not, and neither is He begotten; And there is nothing that can be compared to Him." Now imagine someone says that your mother has a child when she does not. Would your mother accept such a lie, would you accept such a lie? So from that there is a huge difference. As for Judaism they called Jesus mother nasty names and reject the final prophet on the basis that he was not amongst their people. So if they reject a prophet that God has sent down then that is another major issue. So the three religions are no longer the same. As for eradicating religion - then what rules do we follow? What will be right and wrong and who will decide that? It does not make sense. Tell me one thing that Islam allows that is against humanity?

If people are to have a better understanding of their own religion then they should have a very good understanding of the THREE main religion of the middle East. Once they have had good basic understanding of all the three religions only then they can claim to have better understanding of their own religion and beliefs. There is very little difference between these three religions, but it's the "thick" Imams who are the main cause of the the troubles within the religions. A very ,very small percentage of Imams who can read and write in Arabic language and yet they claim that they have read koran, yes they may have have read Koran, but only in PARROT way only, with No understanding because they don't know the language of Arabic and the stories they tell to people in the Mosques is " hear say" from other so called Imams and professors of Islam. It's pity that none of these imams have met "GOD" in person, so it's all bit of iffy. RELIGION IS THE WORST EVIL THAT HAS BEEN INFLICTED ON THE HUMAN RACE. UNTIL RELIGION DIMINISHES IT'S HOLD ON PEOPLE'S MINDS THERE WILL NEVER BE REAL PEACE IN THIS AND "FUTURE" WORLD. People should live in real world and stop being led by these so called Imams and the "know it all" .
