29/ 5/2008

ROCHDALE A fight between two gangs of youths left one boy in hospital with head injuries.

Police were called to Denehurst Park, Greave, Rochdale, at about 9pm last Friday after reports that a group of 12 white youths had been attacked by up to eight Asians.

During the disturbance, a 17-year-old white boy was assaulted. He sustained head injuries resulting in bleeding on the brain that required emergency surgery.

He was taken to Hope Hospital where his condition is described as `comfortable'.

A youth, also 17, has been charged with attempted murder.

He appeared before Rochdale magistrates yesterday and was remanded in custody until next Wednesday.

Extra patrols were mounted in the Greave area over the bank holiday weekend to reassure worried residents.
