17/ 6/2008

ROCHDALE based Ramadhan Foundation is representing the views of UK Muslims at an international conference in Malaysia looking at the positive contribution Muslims are making to the UK and around the world.

Chairman Muhammad Umar will also be meeting with influential international leaders including the Malaysian PM during his seven-day visit in Sabah.

As well as discussing the positive role of Muslims, Mr Umar is chairing a panel discussion titled 'Is globalisation the panacea to the problems of world peace and harmony?'

Today (Tuesday 17) he will meet with the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi and will discuss his views on the ever increasing problems facing the world and how Muslims can contribute to eradicating them.

Later this week he will also meet with former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr Muhammad Mahathir in Kuala Lumpur, where they will discuss the occupation of Iraq and discuss progress in relation to criminalising war.

Said director of the Ramadhan Foundation, Mohammed Shafiq: "It is with some pleasure that the Ramadhan Foundation is the sole Muslim organisation from the UK at such an important international event.

"Our chairman will be holding key meetings throughout his visit to share information on how to tackle global problems and how Islam and Muslims can make a positive contribution towards these problems.

"Having the opportunity to speak and discuss issues with both the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia will be used to convey his thoughts on what role Muslims are playing in the UK positively.

"This visit is the latest in a series of international gatherings where the Ramadhan Foundation have been asked to send delegations"
