Seminar will promote healthy living

17/ 7/2008

STOCKPORT residents are being encouraged to attend an Asian health seminar aimed at raising awareness about chronic disease and promoting healthy living.

The Stockport Asian Health Education Training event (SAHET) is being held at Stockport Town Hall on Thursday 24July between10.30am to 3.00pm.

The event is jointly organised by Stockport Mela Forum and Stockport Council and will provide an opportunity for people of all faiths to come together and learn about health by listening to varied speakers, asking  questions to health experts and going round the many stalls which will be there providing information.

The free event also features Indian dancing entertainment by award winning Bollywood dancer Natalie Rout and dance group 'Pariyaan'.

And for those  who want to get started on living healthy straight away, there will be fun  exercise demonstrations for people to join in.

Executive member for communities, Councillor Sue Derbyshire, said: "It's excellent to see Stockport being a leading example in promoting healthy lifestyles. Healthy living is a national talking point at the moment and it is great to see people getting involved and making a difference locally.

"It is also good to see other communities joining together in this setting. It is something Stockport has done for a long time and is proud to continue with this event."

For more information about the event, contact Nasrullah Khan, event  co-ordinator on 07800 617 842.
