Man charged following M62 crash

A MAN has been charged over a motorway crash in which a father and son died.

Gary Proctor, 47, and 16-year-old son James were fatally injured in the two-car collision on the M62 near Rochdale as they headed to manchester Airport for a dream holiday.

Mum Catherine is seriously ill in hospital after suffering a broken arm and ribs. The crash happened early on Sunday when the family's Fiat Punto car collided with an Audi estate close to Birch services.

Imran Hussain, 31, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, drink-driving and making threats to kill. He was appearing before magistrates in Rochdale. Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to Mr Proctor and his son from Wakefield.

"They both really loved sport and were season tickets holders for the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team," friends said in a joint statement. "James was a lovely, smashing lad. He was really thoughtful, very clever.

"He loved sport, in particular cricket, snowboarding and golf.

"He had saved his pocket money with the intention of buying a new set of golf clubs while on holiday in America.

"Gary and James regularly played golf together. Gary was quiet and unassuming, with a good sense of humour and loved a laugh. Both he and Catherine idolised James. They were looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime."
