STOCKPORT residents attended an Asian health seminar which was aimed at raising awareness about chronic disease and promoting healthy living.

The Stockport Asian Health Education Training event (SAHET) was held at Stockport Town Hall last Thursday, jointly organised by Stockport Mela Forum and Stockport Council.

It provided an opportunity for people of all faiths to get together and learn about health by listening to varied speakers, asking questions to health experts and going round the many information stalls.

The free event also featured Indian dancing by award winning Bollywood dancer Natalie Rout and dance group Pariyaan.

And for those who wanted to get started on healthy living straight away, there were fun exercise demonstrations for people to join in.

Councillor Sue Derbyshire, Stockport Council’s executive member for communities, said: "It’s excellent to see Stockport being a leading example in promoting healthy lifestyles. Healthy living is a national talking point at the moment and it is great to see people getting involved and making a difference locally. It is also good to see other communities joining together in this setting. It is something Stockport has done for a long time and is proud to continue with this event."
