ONE of India’s leading writers will visit Tameside to talk about her life and work as an author.
Varsha Adalja, an avidly-read writer in Gujarati, will be at Tameside Central Library in Ashton on Friday 24 April to give an insight into her exciting career spanning over 30 years.
As Tameside, and Ashton in particular, has a large Gujarati speaking community the borough was hand picked for Varsha to visit. The award-winning author will host the free event, which starts at 2pm. She will be speaking in English and Gujarati.
Over the years Varsha has published 40 books in Gujarati including 22 novels and seven volumes of short stories, edited the women’s magazines Sudha and Gujarati Femina, appeared on stage as an actress and written for radio and films.
She will be sharing some of her books on the day, plus there will be books available for people to borrow from the library.
The event is being supported by the British Council as part of a programme of events across the country linked to the London Book Fair which, this year, features over 45 Indian writers and poets.
