A RESTAURANT is serving up a tennis treat to spice up the summer - strawberries and cream curry.
The `Wimble-Indian' is being sold at the Village Tandoori on Beech Road, Chorlton, and is already proving a hit with customers.
Owner Aki Hussain came up with the idea as a way of celebrating the Wimbledon tennis competition while topping up his sports charity fund, which was stolen by burglars in a raid last weekend.
The curry features fresh coconut and a number of `secret ingredients' as well as strawberries in cream, and is sweet with a spicy bite.
Aki, 26, of Chorlton, said: "We thought we would try and create something that encapsulates Wimbledon. This is the first curry I have made for a particular season, but I think I will be making more of them in future.
"We sold three or four within minutes of putting the sign up and will be serving them throughout the competition."
Last Saturday, between 1am and 4.30pm, the restaurant was targeted by thieves who stole £50 of money collected for sports charities and took £40 from the till.
A pound from each curry sold will go back into the charity fund.
Melanie Davies, a 26-year-old teacher from Chorlton, was one of the first people to try the `Wimble-Indian'.
She told the MEN: "When I saw the sign I thought I'd try one. It was very nice and creamy, and the strawberries worked."
