AN ISLAMIC website designed by a 19-year-old student went to the top of the Premier division in its first week on the net.

Zishan Khan, computer science student from Rochdale decided to create his own website after reading about a new free service launched by the Asian News' parent company, The Guardian Media Group.

Non-profit making organisations, interest groups and clubs are taking advantage of the site, www.mymanchesteronline.co.uk where they can situate their website free and even get help in setting it up.

Zishan followed the instructions after logging on and was given simple instructions on how to build the site. He decided to call it the 'World of Islam' because the aim was to spread information about his religion.

The site includes a daily quote from the Quran, information about the Prophet Mohammed and a message/letters page. Within a day the site was top of the 'most hits' league and it has remained in the top five ever since.

Said Zishan: "I didn't think my site would get so many hits. Its nice to know that people are going into the site and reading about my religion.

"When I saw a chance to create my own website I decoded to do it on Islam as I believe there's so much to learn from our religion and this is good way of getting the message across."
