Pupils seek Lahore twins

HIGH school kids in Rochdale and Lahore may soon be paying each other exchange visits thanks to a new twinning scheme.
Governors at Matthew Moss High in Rochdale have agreed to twin with Islamia High in Lahore - the capital of Pakistan's Punjab province. The link was set up by Matthew Moss vice-chairman Ghulam Shahzad, an old pupil of Islamia where he passed the Pakistani version of the GCSE exams in 1964. He said the twinning arrangement would benefit both schools.
"I know the circumstances in which students learn in schools in Pakistan," he said "There is no lack of commitment to learn on their behalf and no lack of commitment on behalf of teachers to teach but there are very limited resources. I visited my old school, recently and felt there was a need to share knowledge for the sake of future generations in both countries. I hope everyone in the education system of both countries will benefit from this twinning."
The two schools hope to share practical and theoretical teaching tips and examine each other's teacher training, IT, health and safety and school governorship methods.
Said Matthew Moss governors' chairwoman Karen Ames: "The link will enable our pupils to become more aware of other cultures and heritage, it will build a relationship with the pupils of both schools, extending our citizenship agenda."
Matthew Moss head Andrew Raymer said: "I think this link with the Islamia High School is an excellent opportunity. It will be very useful to us all to be able to work with a high school in Pakistan, exchanging information about our daily lives as well as about teaching and learning in our two communities."
