People power

1/ 1/2003

PEOPLE power is changing the face of a community with the help of funds from revitalising inner Rochdale.

Deeplish Neighbourhood Improvement Partnership has been rallying residents many of who are Asians in a drive to make the neighbourhood a safe and attractive place to live.

Now the group has even more reasons to celebrate by scooping £800 from the community chest after waging a long running battle against bad luck and petty crime. The money will be used to pay for a cycle parking area where children can secure their bikes.

Rene Flood of DNIP said: "We want to foster a positive community spirit that crosses the boundaries of age, class, religion and culture. It has been hard work but people know we're here and things are improving."
