Turn the tables on Sir and Miss

1/ 1/2003

SALFORD kids could get the chance to stand at the front of a class full of teachers and dish out punishments - thanks to a Cadishead man.

Youngsters from across the city may be able to take part in the new series of BBC's Rule the School, where they will turn the tables on the adults by teaching them how to DJ, rap and breakdance.

Filming for the show will take place next year and teenagers will be able to hand out punishments to the teachers when things go wrong.

Auditions for the show will be held at the successful under 18 Jabba Party Nights organised by Paul Singh and held across Greater Manchester over the next few weeks.

Paul from Cadishead was approached by the BBC after one of the events was featured on children's TV show Ukool. He started the Jabba Nights in the town's Lord Street recreation centre three years ago after realising there was nothing for youngsters to do, and the events won the backing of the police, councillors, and Eccles MP Ian Stewart for being good, safe nights.

As well as featuring professional performers, youngsters are encouraged to show off their rapping and DJing skills at the events.

Paul told us: "They could obviously see there is a wealth of talent there and they wanted to tap into it. Anyone can put forward to audition to be an MC, DJ or rapper and everyone will be given a chance to shine. Those who are interested should send in their audio tapes and we will contact them. Its great that we can enable the youngsters to show off their talents."

Tapes should be sent to John Francis c/o Jabba party, George H Carnell Leisure Centre, Kingsway Park, Davyhulme, M41 7FJ.
