Hot pickle has banned addidtive

AN extra hot chilli pickle popular within the Asian community is
contaminated with harmful colouring say trading standard officers
in Oldham.
They want shop keepers to remove Pran's Naga Chilli Pickle from
their shelves and urge consumers to throw away the pickle if they
have it.
The product is contaminated with Sudan 1 - a red colouring that has
turned up in other Indian food products recently.
Consumption of the colouring is though to increase the risk of
cancer.
The pickle is in 300g screw up jars, with a red label with
lettering in yellow and white and a picture of chilli peppers on
the front.
The Pran logo is at the top of the label on the front of the jar
with the product description "Naga Chilli Pickle" in white
lettering plus the words "extra hot" in yellow lettering.
Trading standards officer Simon Wilkes said: "This is another
product contaminated with Sudan 1, which is not a permitted food
additive.
"Although the importer is undertaking a trade withdrawal, it is
likely that some products may still be on sale or people may have
them at home.
"Any businesses that still have this product on their shelves
should remove it from sale immediately and return it to their
suppliers." "This product only represents a risk of health if
consumed in sufficient quantity, but people should avoid using any
that they have."
