COULD one of our female readers be the Asian answer to Lizzy
Bardsley - the foul mouthed Rochdale mum who rose to national
notoriety after appearing on Channel 4's Wife Swap programme?
There were questions in Parliament after the show revealed she and
husband Mark lived on benefits of £37,000 a year at their home in
Hursted Road, Milnrow.
Now programme makers have appealed via Asian News for an Asian
family to step forward and offer themselves for a new series.
Said a Wife Swap producer David Wise: "We try to look at all
communities on Wife Swap but we have never had an Asian family and
it would be really great if we got one.
"It would be very interesting to see what difference the
traditional closeness of Asian families make.
"There might be issues connected to religion and lifestyle. We
would obviously make provision over things like halal food to
ensure personal and religious issue are respected.
"We are not necessarily out for sensationalism. I hope that viewers
get to reflect on their own family relationships when they see the
programme."
Programme makers are also particularly interested in recruiting a
family that is involved in running a small business.
Meanwhile Lizzy, who is appearing on Channel 5's Back to Reality,
has had a makeover (see picture) and has hired an agent to handle
her rising media profile.
Filming of the next series of Wife Swap has just begun but there is
still time to volunteer.
