Held knife to policewoman’s throat

A VIOLENT yob who left a police woman scarred for life after he
lunged at her with knife has been jailed for eight years.
Satnam Sandhu, aged 20 of Roundthorn Road, Oldham, pleaded guilty
to attempted GBH when he appeared at Minshull Street Crown
Court.
Sandhu lunged at PC Lisa Russell with a folding lock knife after
she tried to help him outside Oldham Police Station last October,
court heard.
He was on bail for the armed robbery of a sex shop at the
time.
PC Russell, aged 32, suffered a 3cm wound to her neck which left a
permanent scar.
Prosecutor Alaric Bassamo told how Sandhu carried out a robbery
with an accomplice at the Adult X Shop on Union street, Oldham in
March last year, in which he beat shop assistant Craig Hartley in
the chest with a hammer.
Sandhu was picked out on an ID parade and bailed.
On 5 October last year he was seen loitering in the yard of Oldham
Police Station by PC Russell at 11.40pm.
When she asked if he needed help he grabbed her collar and put a
knife to her throat.
She screamed. He then slashed her causing the cut.
Fellow officers who heard the commotion rushed to help and Sandhu
was arrested.
He told police he had been drinking and smoking cannabis and felt
emotional and suicidal.
