Doctors view the road ahead

The north west branch of an organisation which looks after
Indian physicians was launched during a ceremony in
Manchester.
The launch of the British Association of Physicians of Indian
Origin (BAPIO) was held at the Saffron Restaurant with the Chief
Councillor of the Pakistan High Commission, Salahuddin Choudhury as
guest of honour.
To mark the event the national chairman of the organisation
Professor Ramesh Gupta invited Mr Choudhury to light a lamp, a
traditional Hindu gesture for good luck (pictured).
Dr Gupta told the audience that their organisation was important in
developing the career prospects of its member doctors.He said:
"Many do not realise their potential in achieving clinical
excellence and improving delivery of health care.
"That is where we come in and help them develop their skills and
encourage them to go further in their career whilst supporting
them."
Earlier in the day BAPIO held an educational seminar at Rochdale
Infirmary for over 80 senior doctors to examine how to get ahead
and become consultants.
Dr Virendra Puri, the president of BAPIO North West said feedback
from delegates was excellent.
He said: "They learned about the latest developments in the NHS
that will affect their career progression. They were very pleased
with the interactive workshops. This helped them to learn how to
get ready for their appraisals and develop their personal
portfolio."
