‘Career criminal’ teen was ‘savage’ mugger

29/11/2004

A TEENAGER who carried out what police described as two savage attacks on lone male victims has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.
Akhlas Khan, aged 19, of Church Road, Newbold was given the sentence at Bolton Crown Court for two street robberies.
In the first incident, Khan robbed a 15-year-old boy of just 20p in Taylor Street, Foxholes, last October after asking for a cigarette and searching him.
Then, in July this year, Khan and three others robbed a 22-year-old man of £25 and a bicycle in Well 'i th' Lane, Deeplish.
The police were told the man had been threatened with a screwdriver and had his chest stamped on.
Rochdale Police Detective Inspector Martin Jeffs said: "Despite his tender age, he seems to have become a career criminal, which is obviously reflected in the length of his sentence.
"I am sure that members of the public will be glad that this offender is off the streets and behind bars. These are particularly savage attacks."
