£10,000 benefits fraud
29/11/2004
A ROCHDALE man had admitted fraudulently obtaining around
£10,000 in benefits.
Wasim Zia, aged 27, of Lucknow Street, Rochdale, admitted six
charges of obtaining benefits by false representation from the
Department of Works and Benefits and asked for 35 other offences to
be taken into consideration.
The offending took place in the years 1999, 2000, 2001 and
2003.
The case was based on savings in Zia's name which effectively
disqualified the defendant from claiming benefits but on Zia's
behalf David Chad said
it was very much a technical matter and explanation would be given
in due course as to how the defendant found himself in the
situation he was.
Zia, who was granted unconditional bail, will return to court to be
sentenced on December 7.
