AN arranged marriage ended in violence for a wife who only met
her bully of a husband once before they wed six-years-ago.
It will also end in divorce, a court heard, after the couple
decided that in spite of trying to make their turbulent
relationship work, it had now floundered and they were calling it a
day.
Jobless dad-of-two Tanweer Hussain, an epileptic, banged his wife's
head on a sideboard and pulled her hair and made her feel as
though, "she had no rights as a human being," the town's
magistrates were told.
And the bench heard that it wasn't the first time the husband had
attacked Nousheen, who after a terrifying domestic incidence at her
home, fled and finally called the police.
Hussain, aged 43, formerly of Buxton Road, and now of Brown Street,
Macclesfield was found guilty of assault at an earlier trial and
was given a two-year community rehabilitation order on the
condition he attends domestic violence classes at his last
trial.
He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation and £70 costs.
Prosecuting, Patrick Hutchinson said: "The defendant, who had only
met Nousheen once before their arranged marriage, was violent
towards her a number of times before she finally reported him to
the police."
In February last year, Mrs Hussain was taking her son to the car in
the garage when Hussain assaulted her.
He said: "There was some swearing and she was pushed and her hair
was pulled in the garage.
"She fell to the floor and grazed her forehead."
She fled to the lounge and was pushed into the sideboard and
punched on the arm, before she ran outside to phone the police who
arrested Hussain."
Defending, Stephen Shepherd said Hussain, who is on benefits, had a
different recollection of that afternoon's events.
He said: "Mr Hussain says she smashed an ornament over his head but
she says she didn't."
He told the court the situation was particularly difficult because
the defendant's brother is married to his wife's sister.
