ASIAN News chief reporter Shelina Begum has been nominated for the media personality of the year award at this years Fusion 07 event.

Shelina (pictured), who currently holds the title of the north west journalist of the year faces competition from Sun columnist Anila Baig, Shabnam Younus from 2BR Radio and Sameera Khan from Asian Sound Radio.

The Fusion awards, which have been sponsored by Asian Image, will take place on 20 April at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.

The event will celebrate the achievement of volunteers, public servants and high achievers in the Asian community.

Other people to be nominated include Manchester Labour councillor, Maryam Khan who is up for woman of the year award. Maryam became the first Muslim Pakistani female to become Manchester city council's youngest recruit.

Rochdale based Kashmir Youth Project is up for the community group of the year award and Liberal democrat MEP Sajjad Karim is up for the Man of the Year award.

The event will feature a fashion show, musical entertainment followed up by a three course meal.

There will also be an appearance by Muslim comedienne Shazia Mirza and other local celebrities who will be on hand to present the awards.
