Symes is legged up as Norden go down

6/ 5/2008

NEW professional Jean Symes was one run short of a maiden half century for Norden when he fell victim to a dubious leg before decision in the match at Radcliffe on Saturday.

Symes was in for 88 minutes and faced 58 balls before he was out to a delivery from Tariq with 107 on the board.

By then Norden had lost Hashum Malik for 22, newcomer Steve Loster for four, and skipper Nick Brierley, also trapped leg lefore by Tariq, for 17.

Greg Tattersall and Oliver Makin, while not scoring freely, defied the bowling for a time as they edged the visitors up to 132, but third-change bowler Raza then took over with four wickets.

Zane Arthur was the only one of the late-order batsmen to get into double figures, and his 20 helped Norden up to a total of 160, but that was 27 short of what Radcliffe had scored.

Arthur had struck early in the Radcliffe innings when he trapped Tariq leg before for two, but Farnworth, Gorsi, Raza who reached his half century, and Sandri provided a base for Radcliffe before the tail-end of the innings collapsed without much of a fight.

Symes finished with four for 60, and there was a debut wicket for Harvey Fitton.

MIDDLETON stumbled to 128 for eight in their 50 overs against Oldham. Mel Whittle and Chanthika Jayasinghe each took three wickets.

Jayasinghe then blasted nine fours and six sixes in his 88 as Oldham romped home with seven wickets in hand.
