Bolly defeated
7/ 5/2008
Bollington's poor start to the season continued with a third consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of Oxton.
Taking first use of the wicket the visitors’ batting line-up was rarely troubled by a Bollington bowling attack that lacked penetration, and they effortlessly posted a challenging 184-7.
During Bolly's reply, Rick Hough and Aldo Pallazzo started comfortably, adding 40 runs for the first wicket, but an all-too familiar procession followed as the rest of the innings capitulated to just 104 all out.
There was another outstanding contribution from Matthew Wood, who fell five runs short of a second consecutive century, and a flawless 54 from 14-year-old Jack Ward saw the team post 230. Bredbury reached 65 without loss from the first 10 overs, but Bolly showed resilience and outstanding fielding pegged back their hosts, eventually dismissing them for 112.
Veteran skipper Colin Rowe hit a superb 111, ably supported by youngster Ben Whitehead (80) as they scored 249 from 45 overs.
Ashley never looked like overhauling this and succumbed to 78 all out, Stuart Plant the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
