Rochdale schools Kick It Out at Spotland

Saturday was Kick It Out Day at Spotland, part of the national campaign involving all Premier and Football League clubs to rid the game of racism.

Football in the Community’s efforts saw girls from St Gabriels, Deeplish, St Edwards and Lowerplace Primary Schools presented with trophies from a recent five-a-side tournament held at Hopwood Hall College.

The competition was run in conjunction with Hopwood College, Link 4 Life and the Rochdale Schools Sports Partnership.

This activity is part of the successful Community Cohesion project at Rochdale AFC run by Azmat Khan who has successfully engaged with many young people in the community, mainly through coaching activities involving schools and community centres throughout Rochdale.

Funding for the project came from the Football Foundation plus money raised through the efforts of Dale’s Supporters Trust.

Football in the Community will be running October half-term holiday courses next week.

With the postal dispute taking effect over the last few weeks, Football in the Community has been inundated with enquiries from parents who have yet to receive application forms, so a decision has been made to allow anyone to turn up any time during the week, at any venue, and enrol on the day.

All courses start on Monday 29 October for the full week at: Rochdale AFC five-a-side complex, Sandy Lane, Rochdale; Littleborough Community School, Calderbrook Road, Littleborough; St Mary's Primary School, Wood Street, Middleton; Siddal Moor Sports College, Newhouse Road, Heywood

Times & Prices (Half day: 10am - 12.30pm/full day 10am - 3pm)

Three-day full course: £30, half days: £20; Four-day full course: £35, half days: £25; Five-day full course: £40, half days: £30

Participants receive acertificate of attendance with skills progress report; awards are presented for most improved/star/skills/personality in each age group; free ticket for a Rochdale AFC home match.
